Beautiful Decay + POOL Art Show
Beautiful/Decay recently had the opportunity to present a specially curated art exhibit at the POOL trade show in Vegas entitled “10 x 1.” The underlying concept of the show was to highlight a selection of photographs, sculptures, paintings, drawings and prints from ten multi-talented artists who also design products for some of the innovative clothing companies featured at POOL. Placed at the trade show’s entrance, the exhibit immediately provided a creative extension and alternative artistic vision for the represented commercial brands. Standouts included Frohawk Two Feather’s iconic paintings that investigate and question the imagery of colonization and exploration, Steven Shein’s kaleidoscopic plastic-glitter-mirror sculptures that embody glam-rock infused geologic abstractions, and Annette Monnier’s charming horror vacui drawing that both celebrates and mocks the art world’s affectations.
Vvork.com Review
Vvork offers up a cutting edge and stunning selection of note-worthy contemporary art and design related content, spanning a broad range of media and subjects, such as performance pieces, photography, online/digital new media projects, artist interviews, commercial products, video, sculpture, painting and installation. Simply designed, Vvork thankfully eschews from providing an over-abundance of explanatory text, leaving the viewer to consider the artworks and arrive at individual conclusions without a cacophony of didactic padding, as is the case with most art presentation today. Vvork’s format also breaks down hierarchical display—presenting both up-and-coming and well-established artists alike in an identical fashion—effectively placing all featured artists on an equal visual playing field. All in all, this fresh site serves as an impressive and extensive creative resource.
